Detox is not a dirty word. Actually, it’s exactly the opposite. Starting and sticking with a detox plan comes with many benefits including but not limited to higher energy levels, clearer skin, and gym gains!
I know that detoxing is good for me. Even so, I love junk food! I love greasy pizza, chocolate covered doughnuts, and sugary Starbucks coffees. There, the cat’s out of the bag. Unfortunately, for me and everyone else, consuming those nuggets of goodness comes with a price.
One slice of pizza comes in at around 258 calories per slice! When you take a look at the macros in pizza it’s even scarier, especially for a person like me who’s just made her way out of the pre diabetes range. There are about 36 grams of carbs per slice. And who am I kidding; when I eat pizza, I don’t stop at one slice. It’s more like 2 or 3 at the least. That leaves me at about more than 100 grams of carbs in one setting. Yikes! That, my friends, is no bueno.
So what does this have to do with Detox? (Nothing really, I just wanted to talk about pizza. J/k) Knowing what you’re eating and how it’s affecting you is more than half of the weight loss journey. Being equipped with a shopping list of the foods that are not only healthy for you, but that will also help mend your gut, is the first step. Once you tackle and improve upon what you’re putting in your mouth, the journey is mostly down hill from there.
Benefits of detoxing are multitudinous!
Get better results from your workout! How well your body responds to your workouts is directly correlated with how well your gut is functioning. If we’re putting the right types of food in our bellies, our body’s are able to break things down properly and get the nutrients where they need to go for optimal body functions. That includes our muscles and joints.
Get clear skin! Acne, eczema, and other skin issues are usually a result of the reactions that are taking place in our gut. There are so many inflammatory foods in our diets these days. Eliminating these foods can do wonders for our skin.
Get your energy back! We usually know there’s an issue with our gut when we experience obvious signs like diarrhea or gas but fatigue and low energy are also signs of poor gut health. Eating all those yucky, processed foods make our bodies work over time to get everything where it needs to go. Give your belly a break and use some of that energy for something productive.
So I’ve put together a shopping list for you guys to use when you go grocery shopping. Use this list as a guideline for what to fill your cart with. When you’re done here, head on over to my Detox Shopping List to put it all together.
